NO MEN'S EARRINGS AT TIFFANY:
Reading through a 1965 edition of Tiger, a magazine that consisted of text reprinted from seminal gay rag Drum and pictures from the Minnesota-based studio, DSI Inc, I came across a Tiffany & Co ad reading "We're sorry. But we do NOT carry earrings for men. Nor will we." As seen here, the magazine explains the advert appeared in the New York Times on December 6, 1964.
I recall once hearing something about Tiffany creating the policy to thwart homosexuality, but couldn't quite place the memory. I did an online search on the matter and came up with a similarly hazy comment left on a 2009 NYT article about Tiffany selling men's earrings. Wrote the reader, "I seem to remember a Tiffany’s sign in the store on Fifth Avenue, in the 70s. A small card on which was printed: “Tiffany & Co does not sell men's earrings, and they never will.'" Clearly Tiffany has changed their policy, but does anyone else remember this being a thing?
Louis Smith - Gay Times - August 2013
Louis Antoine Smith, MBE (born 22 April 1989) is a British artistic gymnast who specializes in the pommel horse. He received a bronze medal and a silver medal on the pommel horse at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2012 London Olympics respectively, with the former marking the first time a British gymnast had placed in an Olympic event since 1928. Smith was also part of the Great Britain team that took the bronze in the men's artistic team all-around at the 2012 London Olympics. Smith is a member of the Huntingdon Gymnastics Club, training alongside teammate Daniel Keatings under coach Paul Hall. He was a part of the European Gold medal winning Great Britain's men's team in 2012, 2010 Commonwealth Games Champion, and is also a four-time European Silver medallist. Smith is the 2012 winner of the BBC TV series Strictly Come Dancing.
Evan Peters in American Horror Story: Asylum
Evan Thomas Peters (born January 20, 1987) is an American film and television actor, best known for his roles on the FX television anthology series American Horror Story.
Peters' breakthrough role was that of the teenage sociopath murderer Tate Langdon in the first season of the hit FX series American Horror Story. He also starred in the second season of American Horror Story, American Horror Story: Asylum, as Kit Walker, a man who was wrongly accused of killing his wife. He is set to headline in the third season of American Horror Story, American Horror Story: Coven, in an undisclosed role opposite Taissa Farmiga, his love interest in the first season.
American Horror Story's second season follows the patients, doctors and nuns who occupy Briarcliff Mental Institution in Massachusetts in 1964, and is inter cut with scenes from the present. Sister Jude (Jessica Lange) and Sister Mary Eunice (Lily Rabe) maintain the institution that was founded by Monsignor Timothy Howard (Joseph Fiennes) to treat and house the criminally insane. Psychiatrist Dr. Oliver Thredson (Zachary Quinto) and scientist Dr. Arthur Arden (James Cromwell) treat the patients within the facility. Patients, many of whom claim to be unjustly institutionalized, include lesbian journalist Lana Winters (Sarah Paulson), accused serial killer Kit Walker (Evan Peters), and alleged murderer Grace Bertrand (Lizzie Brocheré).
As the season unfolds, we learn of everyone's past, and present, personal lives. Sister Jude was once a philandering nightclub singer who unintentionally killed a young girl in a drunk driving accident in 1949. This led her to become a nun and then later be selected to work at Briarcliff. Sister Mary Eunice becomes possessed and taunts her about the accident. Sister Jude later discovers, however, that the girl she thought she killed is actually alive. Sister Jude figures that God had a plan for her all along, and she decides that it is her job to destroy all the remaining evil at Briarcliff.
This includes the sadistic scientist Dr. Arden and Dr. Thredson. Arden is a former Nazi whose experiments have produced "Raspers", mutated former patients, who lurk in the woods surrounding the institution. He and Sister Jude often clash with their differing views of how the facility should be run. Dr. Thredson is a psychiatrist assigned to evaluate accused serial killer Walker, although it is also revealed that Thredson is the actual killer. Walker believes his wife Alma (Britne Oldford) was kidnapped by aliens and Thredson makes it his mission to pin her disappearance and possible murder, among others, on him. Walker is duped into taping a confession and is arrested for the murders. He later escapes custody.
Thredson also tries to "reform" another patient that has been wrongfully committed. Lana Winters is an ambitious journalist who attempts to expose Briarcliff's mistreatment. She is in a relationship with girlfriend Wendy (Clea Duvall), who is blackmailed by Sister Jude into committing Winters. It is revealed that Thredson has also killed Wendy and, at first, tells Winters that the killer is still on the loose. Thredson agrees to help Winters escape the asylum, but she learns his dark secret and that he sees her as the mother he never had. He rapes her, she escapes, only to end up back at Briarcliff. She later learns she is pregnant with Thredson's baby.
Meanwhile, believing his wife is dead or missing, Kit Walker has taken up with inmate Grace Bertrand. She is accused of murdering her family and it is revealed that she actually had. She and Walker get caught having sex before his arrest and they are separated with the intent to be sterilized. However, she is abducted by aliens and is later returned, very pregnant and ready to give birth. Walker has allowed himself to be caught and arranges for her and their baby to be released. The three arrive at his home to find his wife Alma, alive and with her own baby.
While all this is going on, the possessed Sister Mary Eunice is able to get Sister Jude deposed and committed. Mary Eunice takes over Briarcliff, with Dr. Arden's help. She nurses the weakened Monsignor Howard back to health and he tries to perform a failed exorcism on her. She rapes him but later tires of all that is going on and Howard kills her by throwing her off the third floor balcony. Dr. Arden, after becoming loyal to Mary Eunice, cremates her while immolating himself.
Lana Winters successfully captures a confession from Dr. Thredson, but decides to corner him in his house to say she has turned the tape over to the police. He states, because he is insane, no jury will convict him and she shoots him. In the present, she has become a famous television investigative reporter and gets Briarcliff closed down for its inhumane treatments. Winters reveals that Monsignor Howard committed suicide. She also reports that Kit Walker took in Sister Jude, after Alma was committed for killing Grace Bertrand for not talking about possibility of the aliens coming back. Jude's dementia worsens and she is taken into the woods by the children. Her mind gets healed but she later dies. Kit Walker is later abducted after he contracts pancreatic cancer.
Winters' grown son (Dylan McDermott) has vowed vengeance against her, the mother who never loved him, especially when she claims he had died at birth. She ultimately convinces him that he is not like his murderous father and then uses his own gun to kill him, when his guard is down.
James McAvoy in Trance
James McAvoy (/ˈmækəvɔɪ/ mak-ə-voi; born 21 April 1979) is a Scottish actor. He made his acting debut as a teen in 1995's The Near Room and continued to make mostly television appearances until the early 2000s. His notable television work includes State of Play, Shameless, and Frank Herbert's Children of Dune. Besides screen acting, McAvoy has appeared on stage with Three Days of Rain in 2009, and in 2011 he did voice work for animated films including Gnomeo & Juliet and Arthur Christmas.
Starting in 2003, McAvoy began to build his film resume with Bollywood Queen. That film was followed with The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005), a commercial hit. His performance in Kevin Macdonald's The Last King of Scotland earned him not only critical praise, but several award nominations. 2007's critically acclaimed Atonement marked the breakthrough in McAvoy's career. It also earned him a Golden Globe Award nomination and his second BAFTA nomination. Another big point in the actor's career was starring in Wanted (2008). Since then, he is notable for playing Charles Xavier in the 2011 superhero film X-Men: First Class, a role he will reprise in X-Men: Days of Future Past in 2014.
Trance is a 2013 British psychological thriller film directed by Danny Boyle and written by Joe Ahearne and John Hodge. The film stars James McAvoy, Rosario Dawson, and Vincent Cassel. The world premiere of the film was held in London on 19 March 2013. Although the description of the plot below is linear, it is not the only method of interpreting the time line. Washington Post writer Michael O'Sullivan describes Boyle as "playing fast and loose with reality."
Plot
Simon, a fine art auctioneer, becomes involved in the theft of a painting from his own auction house. Simon's colleague Franck confronts him at gunpoint and takes the painting from him. When Franck tries to check the painting, Simon attacks him and receives a blow to the head that leaves him with amnesia. When Franck gets home, he discovers that the package only contains an empty frame. Franck and his offsiders then kidnap and torture Simon, but he has no memory of where he has hidden the painting, so Franck decides to hire a hypnotherapist to try and help him remember.
Franck makes Simon choose a hypnotist from a directory, and he chooses a woman named Elizabeth Lamb. Elizabeth and Franck start a relationship and she suggests that she try to seduce Simon to find the painting. She has sex with Simon and hypnotizes him. Simon has a dream where Franck and his associates plan to kill him, but he kills them instead. In the dream, he remembers where the painting is, calls Elizabeth and tells her.
Simon awakens, only to find Elizabeth is gone. When he calls her, she is on her way to get the painting, which Simon begs her not to. Franck and his associates intercept Elizabeth and force her to lead them to the painting. As she kisses Simon, Elizabeth passes three bullets to him. He attacks Franck with a fire
extinguisher and takes the other bullets and his gun. Elizabeth goes back into the apartment, where one of Franck's associates tries to rape her. Simon kills all three of them and takes Elizabeth to get the painting. She tells him to let Franck come with them. He then leads them to a parking garage where the painting is.
During the trip, Elizabeth mentions an abusive relationship she was in. She reveals that Simon was previously a client of hers. They started dating and he became obsessed with her and eventually abusive. She then used hypnosis to make him forget her and steal a painting for her. They arrive at the garage and take off to the warehouse in a car that Simon claims the painting is in.
On the day of the heist, Simon was attacked by Franck and awoke several hours later. He then received a text from Elizabeth, telling him to bring the painting to her. In reading it while he crossed the road, he was hit by a car. The female driver planned to take him to hospital, but Simon, with his memory partially regained, thinks the woman is Elizabeth and strangles her for making him forget her. He hides her corpse and the painting in the trunk and hides the car in a garage. They stop at a warehouse, and Elizabeth
finds the painting and the body in the car's trunk. Simon douses the car in gasoline with Franck handcuffed to it, sets it on fire and tells Elizabeth to run away with the painting. She runs away but promptly returns driving a truck which she drives into Simon, pinning him against the other car, and ultimately sending Simon, and the car Franck is trapped in, into the river.
Franck manages to escape, while it is implied that Simon drowns. The scene cuts to Franck swimming in his apartment while thinking of the event. He gets out of the pool and receives a package. He opens the package and finds an iPad that plays a video of Elizabeth talking about the painting, which is now hanging in her apartment. She gives him the option to forget the ordeal, and a button for an app called "Trance" appears as the video ends. Franck is shown doubting whether to press the button, and the screen cuts to black.

Guys, this is the Guess His Dick column to end all Guess His Dick columns. Before reading on, I recommend you have your inhaler nearby, that you've taken all of your heart attack medication, and that you have the paramedics on speed dial. If you've got high blood pressure, don't even bother. This guy might actually kill you, and I can't be responsible for any more deaths than I already am (my hit-and-run number is getting dangerously high).
I really hope this guy is both a complete idiot and an insufferable asshole, because otherwise the rest of us might as well just pack it in and head home. Perfection achieved. What do you guys think he's packing?
